I would like to send  out my deepest sympathy & regards to their families, & also to all the staff & fans of both guys.

retirement party

Posted on 08.06.2009 6:58PM under Blog

Aloha! Been busy this weekend. It was Takamiyama’s retirement party. There was about 1000 people there, some I haven’t seen in a long time. The hardest part was when people would walk up to my wife & I with  their kids & asked if I remembered them. I would say not really & they  say yeah you held him or her when they were 2 & now they are 20. It  was the closing of a legacy in sumo. The Hawaii connection has  probably come to an end. Thank you Takamiyama for opening the door for  all of us. Take care & enjoy your retirement. Otsukaresamadeshita.

retirement

Posted on 01.06.2009 2:27PM under Blog

Aloha!

It was a very busy weekend. Finally got back to Tokyo lastnight. Was up in misawa fri night at their asaian pacific banquet.
Once again thanks to all the island brothers & sisters up in misawa.
Went to Nagoya on sat. Had a match with all japan. Finally back in Tokyo. I know I have not being posting as much as when I first started blogging.

I also wanted to congratulate Takamiyama & Ushiomarau on their retirements from sumo. Takamiyama has spent the last 45 years if his life in the sumo association. It is the close of a generation. He was the Hawaiian connection to sumo. Now with his retirement I don’t think there will be anymore.

Once again congratulations. As for ushiomaru he will be the one to take over the stable from takamiyama. He is a very smart & clever guy. I know it will be hard on him because of the situation with the economy, the situation with the amount of children in japan. Before the families used to be big so 1 child going to sumo wasn’t a big thing. Now with the lack of children, it is harder to find kids who want to become
sumo wrestlers. Wish both of them the best of luck.

Until next time a hui hou!

Mahalo Akebono.
